Villa Felicity Vieste

Located on the tip of the Gargano, Vieste is one of the most beautiful and well-known seaside localities in Puglia. Called "The Pearl of the Gargano", it overlooks 30 km of shoreline bathed by a crystal clear sea, where the golden beaches, the enchanting sea caves, the jagged coast and the delightful coves, form the background.

At the beginning of the beach next to the Mattei seafront you can admire the splendor of the Pizzomunno, a 20 meter high white cliff, the main symbol of Vieste; the famous trabucchi, buildings for fishing scattered in various parts of the coast, will project you into another era. Vieste is also famous for its historic center where it is possible to visit the malacological museum which collects over 11000 shells from all over the world, make small purchases or enjoy the unforgettable flavors of this land.

the bays

Plunged into the sea, the Gargano strongly lives the spirit of the Mediterranean Sea. About 200 km of coast alternating overhanging rocky walls, dune coves, rocks and stacks, Mediterranean scrub and limestone walls. Going in search of its most beautiful beaches is not so difficult and tiring, you can reach them starting from the Statal Road 89 which from the coastal lakes of Varano and Lesina arrives in Manfredonia, or directly from the sea, perhaps the most suggestive way to look for the place just where to fully experience the beauty of the apulian peninsula.

tremiti islands

Also known as the Diomedeans, the Tremiti Islands represent a small corner of paradise that attracts thousands of tourists every year thanks to the clear sea, the clean seabed, the pleasant climate, the pure air, the blooming vegetation, the still wild and unspoiled nature , the bays and headlands, the low and sandy coasts, but also high and rocky with cliffs overlooking the sea. It looks like an exotic destination, yet it is the only Italian archipelago in the Adriatic Sea.

The Umbra forest

With its dense and lush vegetation of beeches, turkey oaks, holm oaks and hornbeams, which can even exceed 30 m in height, the Umbra Forest is certainly one of the symbolic places of the Gargano National Park, a natural reserve at about 800 meters above sea level . Another peculiarity of the Umbra Forest is the flora, which includes over 80 species and 17 different varieties of wild orchids.

history and culture

The Gargano is a land full of history with paleolithic evidence (Paglicci cave near Rignano, shelter of Sfinalicchio between Peschici and Vieste), neolithic (necropolis of Monte Saraceno near Mattinata), roman and christian (city of Siponto south of Manfredonia, Merinum and La Salata necropolis, about 10 km north of Vieste). Is also worth seeing are the Romanesque churches (churches of S. Maria Maggiore and San Leonardo in Siponto, cathedral of Vieste, abbey of S. Maria a Mare alle Tremiti) and the castles Monte Sant'Angelo, Manfredonia, Vieste. With trips out of town, you can admire the nearby places of worship such as Monte S. Angelo (whose Sanctuary of S. Michele is an UNESCO World Heritage Site) and S. Giovanni Rotondo, as well as to appreciate the colors and scents of the Park Gargano National.
